Orientation Program for New Graduate Students (PKKMB) of Graduate School, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta 2023/2024

The Campus Life Introduction Program (PKKMB) for new students of the 2023/2024 odd semester intake was held on Thursday–Friday, August 10th–11th, 2023, and attended by the Graduate School leadership team, including the Director, Vice Director I (Academic and Student Affairs), Vice Director II (Finance and Infrastructure), Study Program Coordinators, Subdivision Heads, and representatives of the Graduate Student Organization (KMSP) as the organizing committee.
The orientation took place offline on the 7th floor of the Imam Barnadib Building, led by event hosts and student organizers. A total of 97 new students participated, consisting of students from the following study programs: Doctoral Program in Educational Sciences (S3 IP), Master and Doctoral Program in Educational Research and Evaluation (S2&S3 PEP), Master and Doctoral Program in Technology and Vocational Education (S2&S3 PTK), Master Program in Environmental Science (S2 IL), Master Program in Educational Management and Human Resource Development (S2 MSDMP)
The 2023 PKKMB carried the theme “Quality Campus Orientation: Shaping Graduate School Students with Excellence, Creativity, Innovation, and Global Competitiveness in the Era of Industrial Revolution 5.0.”
The two-day event commenced with the screening of the Graduate School profile video, followed by an opening report delivered by Roni Eka Rahmat, Chair of KMSP, and a welcoming address by Prof. Dr. Anik Ghufron, M. Pd, Director of the Graduate School. In his address, Prof. Anik congratulated all new master’s and doctoral students, emphasizing that “The Graduate School of UNY envisions becoming a leading graduate education institution in Southeast Asia by 2025, excelling in education and research, guided by the values of piety, independence, and scholarship. Many of our alumni have gone on to achieve remarkable success after graduation.”
The session continued with the introduction of the Graduate School leadership team, program coordinators, and supporting units. Vice Director II, Dr. Widyastuti Purbani, M. A, presented information on financial management and facilities, while also motivating the students by saying that they were exceptional individuals for having earned a place at UNY—one of Indonesia’s top universities. She expressed her hope that all students would excel academically and graduate on time.
In addition, Prof. Erna Andriyanti, Ph.D., from the Publication Division delivered a session on “Tips and Tricks for Academic Writing,” providing valuable guidance for developing research and publication skills. The day concluded with program-specific introductions by each Head of Study Program, who presented their program’s vision, mission, curriculum, and graduate profile.
On the second day, the PKKMB continued with a public lecture themed “Developing Graduate School Students with Excellence, Creativity, Innovation, and Global Competitiveness in the Era of Industrial Revolution 5.0.” The lecture was delivered by Dr. Muchlas, M.T., Rector of Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) and an alumnus of Doctoral Program in Educational Research and Evaluation.
The event, attended by around 60 new graduate students, was highly engaging and interactive. The inspiring lecture provided valuable insights and motivation for students as they embark on their academic journey and prepare to face the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 5.0 era.
